5/11, Microsoft Cowboys vs Djangos
Microsoft Cowboys and Djangos went head to head at Tukwila on this fine Saturday morning. Cowboys won the toss and decided to bat first.
Aseem looked in good touch while being the major contributor in a quick opening partnership of 24 runs. Srikanth was the first man to fall at the personal score of 3, off the bowling of Neeraj while mis-cueing an attempted pull shot to a delivery that snaked away after pitching. Saurabh went one down, and he looked set for a long haul from the first ball he faced. Aseem fell at team score of 40 after contributing 24 runs off 26 balls which included 4 cracking boundaries. Avinash partnered Saurabh for a 16 run stand before falling to a comical run out. Deepak, Cowboys' in-form wicket-keeper batsman, joined Saurabh in the middle next and these two made batting look easy and pleasant, the way it's supposed to look. Deepak ran like a hare, and Saurabh kept the big shots coming. He was specially severe on opposition captain Vikrant, scoring 25 runs off one of his overs. Deepak got caught by Aditya off Vikrant's bowling after contributing 28 runs to a partnership of 76 runs. Srini went in next and scored a quick fire 14 which included a huge 6, before being run out with the team total at 154. Saurabh took cowboys' score to 177/9 after 20 overs. He scored an awesome 40 ball 71 that included 4 fours and 5 sixes with shots played all around the ground, and he fell to Bhargava while trying to score big hits in the end.
For Djangos, Bhargava was brilliant with the ball taking 3 wickets for 23 runs off his 4 overs. Vikrant, albeit a little expensive, also picked up 3 wickets.
Djangos, in response, started well. But once they went from 35/0 to 35/3 courtesy some very good bowling from Rohit and Prasanna, their chase looked effectively over. Vikrant scored a fighting 47 to take his team to 128/9 off 20 overs to get some crucial bonus points. For Cowboys, Prasanna was the pick of the bowlers picking up 4 wickets in his spell. Saurabh also picked up 2 wickets in the only over he bowled, and was deservedly considered Man of the Match by the officials.
5/12, Microsoft Cowboys vs Bellevue Rockers
This threatened to be a rainy morning as per weather forecast, but it turned out to be a storm actually.
A full 20 over game was played, in which Cowboys defeated Rockers by a whooping 85 runs in both the teams' last league game. Cowboys scored 233/1 and restricted Rockers to 148/6 at Tukwila cricket field.
Cowboys opened with Srini and Srikanth. Both looked in ominous form from ball 1. Srikanth forced a 10 min break in the game in the first over itself by square driving the new ball for six over cover point and into the bushes. Srini was looking elegant with his shots, getting everything off the middle of the bat but just not launching himself yet. Both these men completed a quick fire 50 run partnership for the first wicket, soon after which Srikanth top edged a Sajid Merchant off spinner trying to go downtown. He made 26 of 22 balls hitting 1 four and 2 top class sixes over square on both sides of the wicket. Rahul went in 1 down and started cautiously, while Srini kept the run-rate going at the Tukwila par rate. At one point while these two were batting, the score was 92 after 11 overs, just decent. Mayhem followed thereafter. Both Srini and Rahul started launching sixes almost taking turns each over. Both crossed there 50s in close vicinity to each other, and after that Srini went just berserk. While Rahul seemed to prefer the V, Srini was hitting sixes in all directions. Srini completed a magnificent century with a six off the last ball off the 19th over. He hit 3 fours and 9 huge sixes in his 54 ball effort. Rahul was at 74 at the start of 20th over, and played all the remaining 6 balls in an attempt to reach his own century. However he could manage only 19 runs in an exciting last over and finished unbeaten at 93 off 44 balls with 2 fours and 10 sixes. These two shared an unbroken 175 run partnership, and took Cowboys to 233/1 off 20 overs.
In response, Rockers were never really in a position to win the game. Sachin Trivedi scored a fighting, brilliant and unbeaten 68 off 44 balls though that included 6 sixes and a four. Saurabh bowled 3 swinging overs and picked up 2 wickets while conceding only 6 runs. Rajeev picked up 2 scalps, while Prasanna and Kishore chipped in with 1 each.
For his elegant, entertaining & destructive century, and for carrying his bat from ball 1 to ball 120, Srini was awarded Man of the Match by the match referee. And with this victory, Cowboys finished the league stage with a clean sheet, entering the play-offs placed at the top of the table!
